November 2014 Challenge!

Hello everyone! How was your October? We're having a lot of fun seeing what you guys come up with for these challenges, so let's see what you guys come up with for November!

In the month of November is National Native American Heritage month, so we here at dAKnitters would like to cherish the Native Americans among our group as well as around the world.

To honour the men & women of the Native American tribes, we would like to invite you all to join us and create something inspired by Native Americans. This includes things that can be knit, crocheted, or felted.

On a personal note, as someone of Native American descent, I am truly looking forward to what you guys come up with for this challenge. :)

:iconfeatherplz: :iconbuffaloplz:

This is simply a challenge, so there will be no judging, and no prizes for the entries.

BUT, there are still rules to follow. :)

- Entries can be of anything you would otherwise be able to submit to the group. The bottom line: have it be fiber art. That includes knitting, crochet, felting, and creations made using fibers.

- Limit 3 entries per person. We know you all create things 24/7, so we cannot accept 10+ entries from one person (even though we would love to see all of them!).

- NEW entries only! You guys create awesome things, so we would love to see you guys create something new just for this contest; it makes it so much more exciting to see what you guys come up with!

- You MUST have the group icon :icondaknitters: somewhere in your description. You can do this by typing : icondAKnitters : minus the spaces.

- Please also state in the description that it is for the November 2014 Challenge.

- Submit your entry to the folder, "November 2014 Challenge". The folder is open today, and will remain open until December 1st.

To speak this early, thank you to everyone who supports the Native American community and culture. It is very humbling to see others inspired by the culture. :)

Hiya everyone! My, oh my, it's already NOVEMBER! A few things need to slow down!

We all here at dAKnitters have been totally loving what you guys are coming up with for our contests and challenges!

For this month, we are going to give another holiday themed contest of THANKSGIVING! :D

:iconturkeyplz: :iconautumnplz: :iconhappythanksplz:

You can make whatever you would normally create for other folders (i.e. anything knit or crochet).

REQUIREMENTS: It has to deal with something either from Thanksgiving/Fall, or the history of Thanksgiving. Meaning, you can knit/crochet something from a cooked turkey to a pilgrim's hat. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. We're not strict on what you can make, we only ask that the submission relates to the theme in some way. A big help is to describe how it relates to the theme if it's not obvious by the creation. :)

Now, here are the rules:

- Entries can be of anything you would otherwise be able to submit to the group. The bottom line: have it be fiber art. That includes knitting, crochet, felting, and creations made using fibers.

- Limit 3 entries per person. We know you all create things 24/7, so we cannot accept 10+ entries from one person (even though we would love to see all of them!).

- NEW entries only! You guys create awesome things, so we would love to see you guys create something new just for this contest; it makes it so much more exciting to see what you guys come up with! This includes that the entry must be exclusive for this contest, and cannot be submitted to other group contests (that voids the entry being "new").

- You MUST have the group icon :icondaknitters: somewhere in your description. You can do this by typing : icondAKnitters : minus the spaces.

- Please also state in the description that it is for the November 2014 contest.

- Submit your entry to the folder, "November 2014 Contest". The folder is open today, and will remain open until December 1st.

Now, it's not a fun contest without PRIZES! We have three places for you guys, so here are the prizes for each place.

First place:

- 400 points from :iconcloudpow:
- Journal Feature and Llama from :iconwildphoenix22:
- Journal Feature and Llama from :icondaddys-girl1997:

Third Place:

Other prizes TBD

(TBD = To Be Determined)

Along with those prizes, if you guys (members) would like to contribute a prize, no matter how small, to the list, please feel free to comment with what you wish to contribute!

With all that being said, the LAST day for submissions is November 30th, with the winners to be announced on December 4th (to allow all the judges fair time to judge the entries).

READY. SET. YARN!

Hello. Thank you for your continued interest in the group. :)

Please remember to read the guidelines of a challenge before submitting to the challenge folder. I'm a fan of WoW, but the theme for the November 2014 Challenge is Native American Heritage. :)

Funny thing, I don't remember submitting it to the challenge folder... I just hit the submit art right on the home page of the group.

Ah, okay. Try submitting the deviation from the deviation page itself to the group.

People, I need help! Since I learned knitting and crochet by myself, there still are a lot of things I don't really know how to make them. I'm doing a blanket in knitting and want to cross stitch the picture on it. Now, I know how you finish the loose ends of yarn in cross stitch, but since we're talking about blankets here, do I just hide the loose ends behind the stitch? Isn't it dangerous, like, with time won't it loose itself when washing, etc?

To avoid loose stitching, double back at the ends of your stitching as you would on a sewing machine. You can also add a lightweight backing to the blanket for added comfort from the bare stitching itself. Also, when it comes to washing handmade items, it is suggested to wash it either by hand, or on a delicate cycle on the washing machine, and drying it in the air, or on a low-tumble dry setting.

Good luck!
